The base V6 gets a standard hybrid system which adds 90 lb-ft of torque, V8 has optional 130 lb-ft system.

A very safe restyle (apparently 9% more aerodynamic), but good looking nonetheless

Never in a million years would I have imagined Fiat-Chrysler being the first to bring a hybrid truck to the market.

That said it looks good, and sure sounds interesting

I’m excited to see what the mileage figures are, there’s a good chance the city number will be class leading by a huge margin.

Um, holy crap. That 12" infotainment screen is the same size as my old cathode-ray monitor’s screen.

Agreed. It’s crazy to think that large trucks with 30-40mpg is a thing that’s starting to happen now.

I think it has a hybrid system more as an afterthought considering ford has been teasing us with a hybrid mustang and a hybrid f-150 ever since the aluminum one came out.... I wouldn’t t be surprised if this system ends up in other pentastar and 5.7 hemi FCA products!

It’s already confirmed for the Wrangler I’m pretty sure. I wouldn’t call 90/130 lb-ft of torque an afterthought, that’s enough to break things real quick if they weren’t designed for it.

Well there were the GM ones a few years back or do you mean with hybrid as standard? Wouldn’t surprise me if the new Tundra will have it as well though.

Bro... its FCA... half of their decisions are afterthoughts....

But the Pacifica has a nice hybrid system and well... if it proves to be good its a great achievement and I sincerely hope it pays out in economic and ecological gains.

Fair point, I always forget about those. Seemed like the time wasn’t right, but now... Could be. I expected the Ridgeline to be first through the door with a hybrid/electric drivetrain

I don’t like that they’re keeping the dial shifter, or that most of the grille mesh is blocked off, but between that screen, and the power outlet high on the dash of some models/interior photos for radar detectors and dash cams... I like.

I really hope it works as advertised and has great gains! It seems like a system that can be easily adapted to other vehicles like the WK2s of the world and it could be great for fuel economy and more power!

Apparently it was largely just to help meet CAFE standards, they “officially” sold those trucks for years as fleet only options after the general public version went away. They didn’t really sell any, but they could use them as a way to help their CAFE score.

FCA’s dial shifter should be the new normal in automatic transmission controlling. It takes up almost no space, it’s easy to use, and it looks great.

It is one of the reason I loved the 2013 Durango, and why I was so excited for the then new 200.

Man I’m just not getting the new trucks. The Silverado looks like crap and the Ram just has a bigger and chromer Ranger nose. And the body lines for the big 3 are done by blind.

I will say the rebel looks the best out of all of them.

Also no thanks to the hybrid crap. Man is this what it feels like as you get old

*Ok, so in 09 GM tried again with the GMT900 as gas prices jumped. That’s right when people cared so the system could not an after thought. They really pushed it and I still see yukons every once and awhile.

Also in 06 the original hybrid was readily available all over.

I’m one that actually takes my vehicles off the black top. I have an accord that’s seen more dirt than 90% wranglers. And in that I have learned, electrics and dust just don’t do well together. Plus even though it might be ok, I’d worry every time I go through a big puddle.

And I know I’m not the one they are catering too, that was get off my lawn talk. For the average consumer that will buy this as a pavement queen, this will be great. It will be interesting to see how it does as it is a boost in power vs GM just calling it a hybrid system. Though it is FCA so it will probably catch fire. It’s that Italian connection

Motors are probably brushless, and at least an ip67 rating. Meaning theyre full protected from dust ingress and short durations of being submerged. It’s not like having motors in harsh conditions is a new thing. They’re in every single factory.

It’s pretty neat, but I’m still not sure why it’s needed in a truck, especially when the midrange center stack is well laid out. Plus, it’s nice not having to take your glove off and tap an icon for a submenu to bring up heated seat controls when it’s -23 degrees celsius.

y’know, unless you’re sitting in Auburn Hills on a daily basis, you really have no basis on which to say such things. adding features like this costs way too much money for any of it to be an “afterthought.”

I do not like this styling cue where the grille extends to give the headlamps “eyebrows.” Don’t like it here, didn’t like it on the previous Accord, didn’t care for it on the 2010 Fusion. and definitely didn’t like it back then:

THIS IS HOW YOU DO HYBRID TRUCKS. Insta-torque boosts, ALL the options, ten speed fucking transmissions, better fuel economy on the Hemi, and MORE POWER.

Some people might not like it, but if this works well, it will be a game changer. Seamless electric motor boost? I’ll take that any day.

I think its a good system, just one that I think was butt glued near end of the development as the marketing strategists realized ford wanted to have a hybrid truck. I suspect the system is attached before the transmission if it also serves as an alternator so its basically a disk that is bolted to the engine, just like having another accessory added to the belt. Again, this is a good system, it just happens to be very mild. Also finding space for the batteries in such a large vehicle couldn’t be so challenging to the engineers which I admit are the strongest arm of FCA...

However something to counter this notion of mine is the 48v system but it could’ve been used to add self drive features later on, very agressive electric sway bars and air suspension.

An impressive truck, I must say.

I think they’re sticking with the 8-speed, and the hemp isn’t gaining any power in and of itself.

Did that article just claim it has independent rear suspension? Does that mean it got rid of the solid rear axle? I know the old ram also has five link rears but conserves the solid axle... whats happening!

I meant 8 speed, don’t know why I confused it with Ford’s setup.

The hybrid system adds power to what the Hemi already is putting out. And I like your autocorrect’s Freudian slip.

While I agree that for form and function its pretty dang perfect, having other knob controls on the dash near it adds too much confusion.

In nearly every other car or truck the shifter is a bespoke lever or handle. There’s nothing else like it in the interior.

While it’s placement in our Durango mitigates the chance of grabbing the wrong knob blindly, in my Ram it still happens once in a blue noon.
